Grit Removal Equipment

Grit Bridge Scrapers

Rectangular tanks are commonly used for sand removal in wastewater treatment plants as in aerated and non-aerated systems. A scraper bridge is used to removal sand, which settles to the tank.

The bridges which move in both directions laterally sand is scraped to the one end or the centre of the tank, from where they are removed by means or airlift or submersible type pumps. Sand-water mixture is generally washed to remove organic matter from inorganic, then they are collected within a contained to be disposed. Grit bridges can be designed as to scrape single, dual, triple and quadrant channels. For small installations, sand washing is incorporated on top of the scraper bridge.

Circular Grit Chamber

Circular shape grit chambers are used to catch heavy inorganic particles in wastewater in order to avoid sand to reach aeration or settling tanks and accumulate in these basins. This type of grit chambers find application in small to medium size wastewater treatment plants as single or multiple configuration.

Wastewater enters into such tanks tangentially and exist radially. With the help of a slow mixer located in the tank water is contantly and continously agitated. Heavy sand particles would setle to the tank bottom during the retention period from where they are drawn and pumped to a container.

Grit Washer and Classifier

If stored long time, sand-water mixture would cause odour problems due to its high organic content. For this reason, sand which is drawn from grit traps must be washed and it is must be also dewatered to seperate from water which still in grit-water mixture. Grit washing and final transport to storage bins are provided units that contains agitators, screw conveyors equipped with necessary water injection accesories.

Grit Classifier

Grit which is sucked from grit removal unit, still contains big amount of water and needs to be dewatered. Grit Classifier seperates grit from water and convey it drop from discharge chute on to a container.

Combined Screening and Degritting Unit

This Unit is a compact system which is developed to separate large materials, grit and grease from municipal and industrial wastewater. Compact System provides separation of particles with high efficiency. It requires less maintenance and it is easy to operate.

First, wastewater go trough the screen and then flow into the grit removal tank. Screenings that are captured by the sieve are pressed via screen press which is integrated with screen and discharged from discharge pipe. In grit and grease chamber, grit settles towards bottom of the tank and grease moves upwards to the surface of the tank. Settled grit is pushed to hopper by horizontal screw conveyor that is located at the bottom of the tank.

In order not to let organics settle, wastewater is mixed via air that is supplied by blower-diffuser system. Diffusers are located at bottom of the tank. Collected grit is dewatered and discharged by a screw type grit separator. Grease is discharged from the grease section via grease skimmer or weir system.
